Bank Employees Refuse to Leave Local Vendor Out in the Storm, and Video Goes Viral

October 29, 2026

When a powerful storm brought fierce winds and hail to Phoenix, a group of bank employees came to the rescue of a local food vendor, bringing his customized cart inside the bank to keep him safe.

The heartwarming moment was captured on video and has since been viewed more than a million times on TikTok.

The vendor, Hilario Cruz Cruz, has spent years selling elotes, a popular Mexican street corn dish, and fresh fruit to customers along Peoria Avenue. Among his regular customers were employees at a nearby PNC Bank, who weren't about to let him face the storm alone.

As the weather turned dangerous, the employees sprang into action, helping Cruz Cruz maneuver his cart through the bank's entrance while powerful winds and hail battered the area.

At first, he wasn't convinced his cart would fit through the door. But the bank manager was confident they could make it work.

"They said, ‘He's not going anywhere else, he stays here, and we're bringing the cart inside,’" Cruz Cruz recalled through a translator. "I said, ‘It won't fit,’ but the manager said, ‘I know it will.’"

Cruz Cruz described how he and one of the employees battled the wind to bring the cart inside, with one holding the door while the other helped pull it through.

"With one hand, I held the door against the strong wind blowing it, and with my other hand I pulled the cart inside," he said. "The young man was doing the same on his side."

It was a simple gesture, but one that meant a great deal to someone whose livelihood depends on his food cart.

"If I had been anywhere else, maybe they wouldn't have been able to help me like that," he added.

The storm made for a difficult journey home. Afterward, he recalled being soaked, with cold feet, as he navigated fallen trees and branches along the way.

But thanks to the bank employees, his cart had been brought to safety, and he was able to return to work a week later, serving customers along his usual route.

And that's the kind of neighborly kindness worth celebrating.
