Teen Gives Stranger His Shoes, Then Goes Above and Beyond to Help Him
October 9, 2026
An 18-year-old in Arizona gave an elderly stranger the shoes off his own feet. But he didn't stop there.
He helped the man get his medication, bought him his favorite candy, and made sure he got home safely. Along the way, he discovered the man was facing a heartbreaking loss.

Jordan Hope was driving along John Wayne Parkway in Maricopa when he spotted an elderly man struggling to cross the busy street with the help of a walker.
The man's shoes were barely holding together, so Jordan pulled over, got out of his car, and took off his own size 13 Nike slides.
Then he gave them to the stranger.
The moment was witnessed by Yareli Madrid, who was in a nearby drug store parking lot and captured the act of kindness on video. Madrid later shared the footage and photos on Facebook, hoping to identify the young man and his family.
“If this is your son/family, I witnessed this act of kindness yesterday morning,” she wrote.
What touched her most was that Jordan wasn't doing it for attention or recognition.
“What makes it even more special is that he did it without anyone watching, without cameras, without expecting recognition or praise,” Madrid wrote. “He simply saw someone in need and helped from the goodness of his heart.”
But the teenager's kindness didn't end with a pair of shoes.
Jordan felt another “tug” to follow the man into the drug store, where he helped him pick up his prescription. He also bought the man some of his favorite candy, peanut M&Ms, and arranged a rideshare to take him home.
Wanting to make sure everything went smoothly, Jordan followed the ride to the man's house to ensure he made it inside safely.
That's when he learned the 80-year-old man, named Roy, had lost his wife just two weeks earlier.
Roy was grieving his wife while trying to manage everyday life on his own. Jordan realized that the man he had stopped to help was dealing with far more than worn-out shoes and difficulty walking.
“I felt God speak to me to do something nice for someone else,” Jordan said. “You don't know what they're going through. I didn't know he lost his wife, or that he has pain in his legs, or he needed new shoes.”
When ABC15 later spoke with Roy by phone, he explained that he struggles with asking for help and was astonished by Jordan's unexpected generosity. Although he chose not to participate further in the news story, he expressed gratitude for having found a new friend during such a difficult time.
And their connection didn't end when Jordan drove away.
The two plan to stay in touch, and Jordan said they may even attend church together in the future.
