October 2, 2026
This week in Leawood, Kansas, a police officer was patrolling a residential neighborhood when he noticed a dog standing in the middle of the roadway.

The dog was wearing a leash, but there was no owner anywhere in sight.
Rather than simply moving along, the officer followed the dog as he walked about half a block toward a nearby home.
When the officer arrived, he noticed the garage door was open. Inside, he found the homeowner on the floor and unable to get up.
The resident had been there for more than three hours.
The officer immediately got the resident the help they needed, and medical personnel arrived to provide treatment. The resident was eventually able to return home and is now recovering safely.
According to the Leawood Police Department, the entire situation may have unfolded very differently if the dog hadn't led the officer back to the house.
