A Texas high school football team gave one senior an unforgettable Senior Night moment, and the celebration that followed may have been even more special than the touchdown itself.

Mason Wisnoski, a senior at Manvel High School, has Down syndrome. During the school’s Senior Night last Thursday, his teammates gave him the opportunity to take the field and do something he had been waiting a long time to do.

Score a touchdown.

With the ball in his hands, Mason took off down the field and ran 30 yards into the end zone.

And then came the celebration.

Mason’s teammates from the offensive line gathered around him, lifted him onto their shoulders and carried him off the field as the crowd celebrated.

For Mason and his family, it was a moment they will never forget.

“It makes a parent’s heart really proud to see him so joyous and so happy to do something that he has waited so long to do,” his mother, Stephanie Wisnoski, told Click2Houston.

His father, Eddie Wisnoski, said the family was especially grateful for the way the team and school made Mason feel like he truly belonged.

“Just knowing that the staff and the team made him feel like he was just a part of the team, it was awesome,” he said.

Mason summed up the moment in just a few words.

“Awesome, I feel happy,” he said. And that happiness was shared by everyone who watched him cross the goal line.

The Manvel Mavericks went on to defeat rival Alvin High School 53-0, but the most memorable play of the night happened before the game even got underway.

It was a touchdown that meant far more than six points. It was a reminder of what a team can do when everyone gets the chance to be part of the moment.

“All the people involved made that happen for him,” Mason’s father told NBC News. “And we're just so thankful for it.”
