“You Didn’t Owe Me Anything”: Olivia Rodrigo Quietly Paid a Woman’s College Tuition
August 21, 2026
Sometimes a celebrity’s biggest impact has nothing to do with a stage, a microphone, or a sold out concert.
For one University of Alabama graduate, it came in the form of a private message from Olivia Rodrigo and a generous offer to help her finish college.

Jamie Causey, a content creator and first generation college student, recently shared the story of how the singer helped ease the financial burden of her final semester.
Causey had previously caught Rodrigo’s attention when the singer came across one of her videos and left a comment wishing her a happy birthday. Later, Causey posted another video talking honestly about her college experience and the difficulty of paying tuition during her final semester.
She said the post was not intended to ask her followers for money or sympathy. She simply wanted to share what she was going through.
But someone unexpected saw it.
Rodrigo privately reached out to Causey and offered to help.
“She told me she loved my videos and I was a source of positivity and light for her, and she wanted to help me graduate,” Causey recalled. “And she did.”
According to Causey, Rodrigo asked if she could send money through Venmo to help with her tuition. She ultimately sent more than $5,000.

For Causey, the gesture was far more meaningful than the money itself.
She decided to keep the story private while she finished school because she did not want something so personal to become a public spectacle.
After graduating, she finally shared what had happened and addressed Rodrigo directly.
“Olivia, I don’t know if you’ll ever understand how much that means to me,” she said. “You didn’t owe me anything. You just chose to show kindness to a stranger.”
Causey also said Rodrigo’s generosity helped her feel that she belonged on the platform where she shared her videos, adding that the singer’s example of giving back is something she will carry with her.
It is a beautiful reminder that kindness does not always need an audience.
Rodrigo could have simply watched Causey’s video and moved on. Instead, she saw someone facing a difficult moment and quietly decided to help.
And for one college graduate, that kindness helped make crossing the finish line possible.
