Last month in Lakewood, Ohio, 8 year old Madeline Glynn heard music drifting from next door. Her neighbor, 26 year old musician Ethan Hayes, was sitting on his porch playing guitar. Madeline wanted to request a Taylor Swift song, but instead of barging into the yard, she came up with a creative solution.
She wrote her request on a piece of paper, folded it into a paper airplane, and launched it over the fence.
On the other side, Hayes spotted the note in the yard after Madeline’s stepfather, Russ, pointed it out from the window. The message was simple: could he play some Taylor Swift?
Hayes chose “Love Story.”
Madeline’s mother, Natalie, recorded the sweet moment on her phone, and shared it on TikTok.

The video exploded online, racking up millions of views and landing the family on major outlets including People Magazine and NBC’s “Today Show.”
But the biggest surprise was still being kept secret.
Unknown to Madeline and her family, Taylor Swift’s team, Taylor Nation, had seen the viral video and quietly reached out to Hayes.
The message read: “Hi Ethan. Taylor asked us to reach out after having seen your performance of Love Story for your sweet neighbor and would love to send something to the both of you.”
The package included signed guitars and handwritten letters from Taylor Swift herself, complete with wax seals and even her perfume sprayed on the envelopes.
“My mom saw the letter, and she started screaming, and so did I,” Madeline said. “I noticed that she signed it, and then I started screaming even more. My favorite, favorite part was her perfume she sprayed on it.”
Taylor addressed her note to “Dearest Madeline” and signed it with a falling star next to her name.
Hayes also received a personal message and an unexpected gift.
“At the end she said, ‘Sending you another guitar in case you need a backup,’” he said. “I looked at my mom and went, ‘Are you kidding me?’ I was speechless.”
What started with a paper airplane and a song request has now turned two neighboring families into close friends, and even inspired a heartfelt response from Taylor Swift herself.
