The boys had been out riding their bikes and exploring their neighborhood when they came across something unsettling. They noticed a man they didn’t recognize doing graffiti, and it left them feeling scared and unsure of what to do next.

Instead of panicking, they made a choice that speaks volumes about trust and community.

They rode straight to their local pastor’s house.

Captured on a doorbell camera, the boys can be seen knocking on the door of Crystal Varner, who leads EQUIP Church alongside her husband. When she answered, the boys asked her to pray for them.

Without hesitation, she did.

Pastor Varner prayed over the boys, offering them the comfort and reassurance they were seeking. Before they left, she told them to “come back tomorrow.”

As the boys walked away, one of them said something that perfectly captured the moment: “That's why I love pastor.”

The heartwarming moment didn’t stay local for long. After being picked up by CBS News, the story spread far beyond their community.

Pastor Varner says she’s heard from people all over the world — including Germany, Spain, Australia, Nigeria, South Africa, Canada, and Arabic-speaking countries — who were moved by the simple act of kindness.

“We’ve had testimonies from atheists who don’t believe in God say how this touched their hearts,” she shared.

For Varner, the moment reflects the mission she lives out every day. As a single mother who once relied on food stamps and a local food bank to raise her four children, she understands what it means to need help—and to receive it.

“With so many concerns already weighing on parents, making sure our families have enough to eat should never be one of them; so we are doing our part,” she said.

Through EQUIP Church, she and her husband focus on feeding families in need and creating a place where people feel supported.

And now, thanks to a group of kids who knew exactly where to turn, that message of comfort and compassion is reaching hearts around the world.
