Single Mom Refuses To Let Sisters Be Split Up — Adopts Them All

In the world of foster care, one of the hardest truths is this: brothers and sisters are often separated—not by choice, but by circumstance. There simply aren’t enough families able to welcome multiple siblings at once.

For one woman in Tallahassee, Florida, that reality didn’t sit right.

Ashley Anderson had spent years as a clinical social worker, working closely with foster families and seeing the system up close. The need was clear, and so was something else—her desire to become a mom.

“I met a lot of foster families that way,” Ashley shared. “And I always knew that I wanted to be a mom.”

So she took a leap and became a licensed foster parent.

At first, it was temporary placements. Then one day, her phone rang with a question that would change everything: could she take in a young girl named Anastasia?

Ashley said yes.

Not long after, the phone rang again—this time about Anastasia’s sister, Aliyah. For Ashley, the answer was just as clear.

Then came a third call. There was a baby — Antonique, just four months old—who also needed a home.

Within a matter of months, Ashley’s life transformed completely. She went from having no children to raising three sisters under one roof.

She poured her heart into caring for them, while also supporting efforts to reunite the girls with their biological family. But when a judge ultimately ruled that reunification wasn’t possible, Ashley was faced with one more life-changing question:

Would she adopt them?

Once again, Ashley said yes.

Today, Ashley and her daughters proudly call themselves the “A-Team” — a name that brings together all four of them: Ashley, Anastasia, Aliyah, and Antonique.

And in the end, it all comes down to this:

“To be able to hopefully have a different outcome for them as adults,” Ashley said.
