Sometimes being in the right place at the right time can save a life — and that’s exactly what happened at Palisades Tahoe last week.

Two skiers were making their way through deep powder when they spotted just the tips of another skier’s skis poking out of the snow. Without hesitation, they jumped into action, quickly uncovering a man who was suffocating beneath the powder.
One of the rescuers, Carson Schmidt, shared the intense moment on Instagram from his helmet cam, writing:
"Wasn’t sure if I was going to post this or not but this was at Palisades between Kt and Olympic lady on Wednesday Feb 18th. For whatever reason we stopped and happen to just see tips of the skis in the whiteout and luckily we did. Just want it to be a reminder to ski safe and ski with a buddy. Doesn’t have to be an avalanche or a tree well to get buried when it’s that deep."

The quick thinking and courage of these two skiers made all the difference, turning what could have been a tragedy into a life-saving rescue.
Their story is a powerful reminder of why skiing with a friend is so important.
