Motorcycle Clubs Unite To Feed Thousands This Holiday Season

For 15 years, the Tru Breed Motorcycle Club has made Thanksgiving a little brighter for families on Minneapolis’ northside — and this year, they’re gearing up for their biggest giveaway yet.

“It’s really become all the motorcycle clubs coming together to do a lot of good for the community,” said Kim Smith, a longtime member of the Twin Cities motorcycle scene. She and fellow rider Mike Oker have watched the tradition grow year after year.
What started with 75 frozen turkeys has steadily multiplied as the need has increased.
“Last year, I think it was around 400 families they were able to help,” Smith said.
This year the goal is to provide four times that amount.
Oker says the reason is clear: the government shutdown has left many families in tough situations.
“Just the craziness of our political situation right now is hurting the people that are here on the streets,” Oker said.
To meet the spike in need, the group launched an online fundraiser, rallying supporters to help them reach this year’s goal.
"As we join friends and family this holiday season and show thanks for the many blessings we have, the annual turkey drive provides an opportunity to express gratitude by giving back to our community," the fundraiser states. "Every donation will make a traditional meal possible for a hungry child, senior, and family in need."
For the riders, it’s about more than turkeys — it’s about neighbors lifting up neighbors and keeping the northside community strong, no matter what challenges come its way.
