The family says the pair were waiting to cross when a car suddenly came toward them. In the split second she had to react, the grandmother did what grandmothers do best — she protected her grandchild. She pushed her young granddaughter out of harm’s way just before the vehicle struck her instead.

“She’s just the best grandma that there is,” a family member shared, overflowing with gratitude.

The girl’s mother said the outcome would have been far different without her mom’s courageous instinct.

“She pushed my daughter out of the way and saved her life,” she told Fox 26 News. “If it wasn’t for her instinct — that grandmother instinct — my daughter wouldn’t be with us today.”

The grandmother suffered serious injuries and was rushed to the hospital, but doctors expect her to make a full recovery. The young girl, who broke her clavicle, is now home healing.

The family hopes the incident brings awareness to long-standing safety concerns in the area — but more than anything, they’re thankful for the incredible bravery that turned a near tragedy into a story of love and heroism.

Because of her quick thinking and selfless act, a little girl is safe today — all thanks to her grandma, her hero.

The family requested not to be identified.
