A dramatic rescue in Harrison County, Tennessee, is inspiring people nationwide after video of the moment spread across social media.
The hero in the story is 22-year-old EPB employee Troy Plemons, who says timing and faith placed him exactly where he needed to be.
“I think God put me there,” Plemons reflected after the rescue.

Plemons had been between job sites and stopped by his shop to grab some supplies. His new route took him to the split of I-24 and I-75—right as a woman’s vehicle was filling with floodwater and beginning to sink.
At first, Plemons and others tried using a rope to reach her, but when it became clear that wouldn’t work, instinct took over. “I didn’t think to do anything else but to just jump in and get her out,” he said. He smashed two windows of the car before pulling the woman to safety, just minutes before the vehicle went under completely.
The woman was able to dry off inside Plemons’ work truck while he and others continued helping more stranded drivers. Though shaken, she was later reunited with her husband.
Plemons said there wasn’t much conversation in the moment, but he knew “she was very thankful.” He later learned that her son reached out personally to thank him for his bravery.
