Local Pet Store’s Simple Request Leads To $100K Dog Food Donation

August 14, 2025

Today's good news story comes from Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

What began as a simple ask for help has snowballed into one of the biggest acts of generosity Sioux Falls’ animal rescues have seen in a long time.

Roxi & Co, a locally owned pet supply store, initially reached out to NutriSource Pet Foods hoping for a modest donation to help feed dogs in local rescues. NutriSource agreed — but when they learned just how dire the situation was, everything changed.

“Too many animals, not enough fosters, not enough homes, and not enough funds,” Roxi & Co shared on Facebook.

That’s when NutriSource called back with a game-changing question: “How much room do you have?”

The answer? “We will make room!”

The result was staggering — 6,541 bags of dog food, weighing in at 33,160 pounds and valued at nearly $100,000, delivered to help feed rescue dogs across the Sioux Falls area.

“This donation means countless dogs in need will have full bellies while they wait for their forever homes,” Roxi & Co said.

But beyond the numbers, the store hopes this inspires a bigger takeaway: "when you support small, locally owned businesses, you’re supporting the community." Partnerships like this happen because small businesses like Roxi & Co reinvest locally, and because brands like NutriSource choose to work with independent retailers who share their values.

Roxi & Co summed it up best: “Together, we’ve proven that when hearts unite, amazing things happen.”
