While delivering a package to a home in San Antonio, driver Steven Cash noticed a neighbor’s Ring doorbell camera had fallen off the door. Even though it wasn’t part of his delivery, Steven picked it up and spent several minutes carefully trying to reattach it.

“He took time out of his busy day to fix it for me, which was such a kind thing to do!” said Kate Rufsvold, the camera’s owner. “He had picked it up off the ground. It wasn’t working very well, but he spent the time—multiple minutes—just sitting there trying to make sure it wasn't gonna fall again. He was pushing on it. You know, it was multiple rounds of videos on my Ring camera.”

Though Steven hadn’t delivered a package to Kate’s home, she was so moved by the footage that she posted the video on social media, hoping to track him down and give him the thanks he deserved.

“I couldn’t give him a five-star rating because he didn’t deliver my package,” she explained. “But he deserves to be recognized and I’m hoping this helps reach him!”

The video quickly went viral, gaining millions of views—and it worked. Steven Cash saw the video, and soon after, Fox San Antonio’s Ryan Wolf arranged for the two to meet.

When Kate opened her door and saw Steven, she immediately pulled him in for a heartfelt hug. “Surprise!” she exclaimed, before telling him, “I wanted to say thank you. Chivalry is a huge deal to me. In the world we live in nowadays, there’s not very many people that are just so kind.”

Then came one more surprise. As part of the station’s “Cash for Kindness” series, Steven was awarded $1,000 for going above and beyond without expecting anything in return.

“We reward people who do things without expecting anything in return,” said Wolf. “And we think you’re a pretty darn good candidate.”

A simple act of caring, done quietly and without recognition, turned into a moment that touched hearts across the internet—and reminded everyone that kindness still exists in the everyday.
