Golf Star Bryson DeChambeau Gives Teen Fighting Leukemia An Unforgettable Day

May 10, 2025

In a beautiful act of kindness, professional golfer Bryson DeChambeau recently gave a Tennessee teenager, Evan Hayes, a day he and his family will never forget.

Evan, who lives in Celina, Tennessee, is a passionate golf fan and player currently battling an aggressive form of leukemia. After learning about Evan’s condition, DeChambeau stepped in to create an extraordinary experience for the young fan.

“Y’all!!! I can’t even begin to explain to you the amazing person that Bryson DeChambeau is!” Evan’s mother, Stephanie Hayes, wrote in a heartfelt Facebook post. She shared how DeChambeau not only flew Evan and his family out and covered their hotel stay, but also opened his home to them for a full day.

Despite his packed schedule, DeChambeau made time to hang out with Evan while doing an interview and filming with popular video creator Zach King—who also surprised Evan with some merchandise. Evan explored Bryson’s gym, trophy room, and even got to chip balls with him on the backyard putting greens.

It didn’t stop there. Bryson gave Evan a full outfit from his personal closet, golf balls, and lots of autographed items. He also treated the family to both lunch and dinner, and wrapped up the day with a round of golf at Grapevine Golf Course in Texas.

Stephanie shared how touched she was by Bryson’s humility: “Such a humble person, he even stopped and talked to and took pictures with everyone at the course who recognized him, which was pretty much everyone.”

The unforgettable day ended on DeChambeau’s rooftop deck, where the group watched the sunset before he personally drove them to the airport.

Bryson DeChambeau, the 2020 U.S. Open Champion and LIV Golf star, is known for his big drives and analytical approach to the game—but it’s his heart that made the biggest impression on this visit.

“He is such a positive guy and gave Evan lots of great advice. What an awesome humble human being!”

Evan’s health battle has been heartbreaking. On April 17, his mother shared that his leukemia had progressed and that no curative treatments remain. He is now home receiving palliative and hospice care, with his family focused on giving him meaningful experiences.

Evan has already received uplifting messages from country music stars like Morgan Wallen, and on May 2, he attended his prom—where he was crowned Prom King.

In the face of unimaginable difficulty, the kindness of others, like Bryson DeChambeau, is helping fill Evan’s days with joy, love, and hope.
