Vince Brocato and his wife, Candice, watched helplessly from afar as flames threatened their cherished home. They had been monitoring the situation through their Ring security camera when a stranger suddenly appeared on their property. Just moments before, they had used the camera’s speaker to scare off a suspected would-be looter. Concerned, Vince called out to the man, “Hello, can I help you?”
The response left them stunned.
“Yeah, your house is on fire. Me and a firefighter knocked it down just now,” the man shouted back.
With fire engines nowhere in sight, the mystery hero and a firefighter had taken matters into their own hands. Unable to access the patio due to a locked gate, they used a simple garden hose to battle the flames. Their quick thinking and determination prevented what could have been a devastating loss.
“If our house had gone, the neighborhood would have gone,” Candice reflected, realizing the full weight of the hero’s actions.
The couple, who have lived in the Runyon Canyon-area home for more than 30 years, returned to find their deck damaged—charred wood and melted lattice standing as evidence of the fire’s ferocity. But thanks to this brave individual, their home still stood.
"Our problems are so small by comparison, but it’s the ‘what could have been.’ This man saved our home and probably the neighborhood," said Candice.
