While responding to a medical emergency, Officer Maguire discovered that the family was enduring more than one crisis—both heads of the household were battling serious illnesses.

Moved by their situation, Officer Maguire took it upon herself to share their situation with her colleagues at the police department. Through personal donations and the support of the Berkley Patrolman’s Association, they were able to put together a holiday package to help the family through the Thanksgiving season.

"It is acts like these that truly exemplify the dedication and compassion of the officers working in our police department," Chief Christopher Baker said in a statement. "I am proud to have Officer Maguire as a member of our team, and I am grateful for her willingness to go above and beyond in serving our community."

Chief Baker encouraged all Berkley residents to embrace the spirit of giving during the holiday season by practicing random acts of kindness.

"As we approach the Thanksgiving holiday, I would like to encourage all residents of Berkley to take a moment each day to help one another with random acts of kindness. Together, we can make a positive impact on those around us and create a stronger, more caring community."
