In August, the Swedeborg R-III School District officially announced that the building would now bear the name Claudene Wilson Learning Center, a heartfelt gesture recognizing Wilson’s 30 years of service.
Photos shared by the district show the new nameplates being installed, signaling Wilson’s impact on generations of students and staff alike.
Wilson has been more than a custodian; over the years, she’s taken on roles as a handywoman, plumber, and bus driver. However, her most cherished role has always been looking after the students.
“I’m not here to say I’m a hero. I’m not,” Wilson said in a CNN interview. “It’s an honor to work here. I just do it for the kids.”

For the Swedeborg community, the new building name reflects the deep gratitude felt for Wilson’s unwavering dedication.
"Congratulations Ms. Claudene! You were a huge part of my childhood and always pushed us kids to be our best at all times. Nobody deserves recognition in this way more than you," Ryan commented on the post.
"Wow! This is amazing. Claudene is one of the best and will always be a HUGE part of who Swedeborg R-III is. There is no one more deserving of this honor!" Joel wrote.
"Well deserved!! I love that woman! She’s known me since I was like two foot tall," Maggz commented.
"Congratulations, Claudene! You have touched so many lives, what a true honor! Thank you for your dedication and for all the wonderful memories," Amber wrote.
