Linda Veress, a spokesperson for the park, highlighted just how unusual this event is, noting that the average grizzly litter size is typically only two cubs. With nearly half of all cubs not surviving their first year, the survival of this quintet will be closely watched by park officials and visitors alike.
The first video of this extraordinary family was captured by local YouTuber Stan Mills, who managed to film the mother bear and her five cubs along the Specimen Ridge/Agate Creek trail.
The second video was filmed by wildlife guide Bo Weldon, who shared his excitement with viewers.
"Seeing the mother bear with the five cubs will always be a highlight moment for my guiding career! This video though was just darn fun! I’m not going to add any music to it because you can just hear the level of excitement from me and my guests!" Weldon wrote.
"Five cubs in a litter are the most we have ever observed in the park, at least from 1959 to present," Veress said.
