Heroic Teen Saves Woman From Submerged Car In Lake
August 7, 2024
Today's good news story comes from Grosse Pointe, Michigan.
A teenager is being hailed as a hero for rescuing a woman who drove her car into a lake.

15-year-old John Agnello was enjoying a peaceful day of fishing when he noticed a car crash into Lake St. Clair. Without hesitation, he sprinted to the rocky area where the incident occurred, teaming up with another good Samaritan to swim towards the vehicle.
"We saw the car, and I knew we had to act quickly," John recounted. "The window was open, but the door wouldn't budge. We had to convince the woman to climb out through the window."
With the woman safely onshore, John learned there might be a child trapped inside the submerged vehicle.
"She said there's a 3-year-old in there," John said.
John dove back into the water and broke the rear windshield with a rock to search for the child. After a thorough check, he confirmed no one else was inside.
John's mother, Beth Agnello, couldn't be prouder of her son's selfless actions.
"The community's support has been overwhelming. Glory to God, I hope this experience keeps John humble and mature," she said.
The woman was rushed to a nearby hospital, where her condition remains unknown. However, it is clear that John's quick thinking and bravery most likely saved her life.
