NYC Bus Driver Rescues Child He Saw Running Down The Middle Of The Street
July 27, 2024
Today's good news story comes from Staten Island, New York.
A New York City bus driver used his parental instincts to save a young boy who had wandered dangerously into a busy intersection.

ABC 7 News
Peter Warner was navigating his usual Staten Island route when he encountered an unusual and alarming sight.
"I saw a little boy running down the street," Warner told ABC 7 News. "He had an iPad in one hand, wearing only a diaper and a tank top, with no shoes. I knew I had to act fast, so I stopped the bus immediately."
Though Warner has 13 years of experience behind the wheel, this was an unprecedented situation.
Footage from the bus's security cameras captured the dramatic sequence of events. Faced with a child who was unable to communicate, Warner swiftly contacted his union representative and dialed 911. Upon their arrival, the police were met with a heartwarming scene: the boy sought another hug from Warner, who is himself a father of two.
The child, it turned out, had wandered four blocks from his home while his father was asleep and his mother was at work. When Warner reunited the boy with his relieved mother, the gratitude was palpable.
"She hugged me tightly and thanked me repeatedly," Warner said. "Now, we keep in touch. She messages me often, and we’ve become friends on Facebook. She even comments on photos of my kids."
