The incident occurred on the Fourth of July around 10:10 pm. Officer Neal was responding to a fire call when he noticed a pressing issue at a neighboring home. The fence of the home was ablaze, and embers had landed on the roof, posing an imminent threat.
Officer Neal immediately tried to alert the homeowners. When there was no response, he swiftly grabbed a nearby garden hose and began dousing the fire. He continued to hose down the roof until he was certain the embers were extinguished and the fire across the street was more under control. The family’s security cameras captured photos of Officer Neal’s heroic actions.
The homeowner, Debra Allen, who was out of town for the July 4th holiday, was immensely relieved and thankful. She had the opportunity to thank Officer Neal in person at the Fairfield Police Department on Thursday.
Having lived in the home for 40 years, Allen said the potential loss would have been devastating.
"It's very emotional. My husband passed away a few years ago. All his stuff is in there and that would have been the most important thing I would have lost," Allen told CBS13.
