Zoo Celebrates Birth Of Rare Warty Piglets

A zoo in the UK has welcomed a pair of rare piglets.

Two Visayan warty pigs were born at the Newquay Zoo in Cornwall last week.
The Visayan warty pig is a small, forest-dwelling pig. They are named after the islands where they live (in central Philippines), and because of the three pairs of "warts" on the face of male pigs, which may help protect their face when fighting.

The piglets are the result of a breeding program at the zoo.
"After our breeding success with two warty piglets last year, we are so pleased to welcome these new arrivals and to continue helping increase the Visayan warty pig population," said keeper Dave Rich.
"Our warty pigs are full of character, and the new arrivals are no exception."
Conservationists believe that less than 200 Visayan warty pigs remain in the wild in the Philippines – making them one of the rarest of the wild pigs.
