Man's Free Lawn-Mowing Service Is Growing At An 'Overwhelming' Rate
August 9, 2021
A New Jersey man's free lawn-mowing service has expanded to 16 states, including California, Colorado and the Carolinas.
Brian Schwartz of Wayne, New Jersey, was laid off from his job in June 2020 due to the pandemic. To stay busy, he started mowing lawns for the elderly and veterans in his community for free.
And so, I Want To Mow Your Lawn was born.

Its website, IWantToMowYourLawn.com, allows users to type in their ZIP codes from anywhere in the country to find volunteers for yard work. You can also use the website to sign up as a volunteer.
What started in a few counties of New Jersey has expanded to 16 states, including California.
"It's a little overwhelming, but it's inspiring," Schwartz said, "just to know that I'm making a difference."
But Schwartz says the number of clients in need is outpacing the number of volunteers.
"We're going through growing pains," he told NorthJersey.com. "There's a ton of new leads coming in every day."
To take some pressure off the nonprofit, Schwartz began to work with professional landscapers who agree to take on other jobs without being paid.
Jazz Samad, who owns Jazz Samad Landscaping, met Schwartz through social media and said their partnership has paid off, noting that two or three of her newest customers have derived from it.
"I always worked for other people," said Samad, 30. "Now that I have more freedom, I'm happy to do it."
