Three-time NBA champion Steph Curry and his wife launched Eat. Learn. Play. in 2019 to focus on helping the youth in underserved communities.

Before the pandemic, the foundation provided meals for the approximately 25% of Oakland school children who have food insecurity.

But the need had grown exponentially.

"We've seen what COVID has done to the community at large. There's a steep learning curve, in getting set up to do this work, but we don't have to work through that. Amidst the uncertainty and chaos, we are in position to make an impact," Steph told The Chronicle in April.

The foundation went from feeding 4,000 families a week in February to providing 300,000 meals a week.

Eat. Learn. Play. also partnered with Chef Andrés' World Central Kitchen to procure meals from "more than 130 Oakland restaurants."

Then in September 2020, Eat. Learn. Play. announced a partnership with Kaiser Permanente to distribute 150,000 meals to Oakland, California families.

In a recent statement, the foundation announced that they have served "well over 15 million meals" during the pandemic.
