Man Rescues Stranger Floating Face Down In Tagus River
December 16, 2020
Last Saturday, José Brito, 37, was walking with his son when he saw a man floating face down in the Tagus river in Portugal.
Brito immediately undressed and jumped into the freezing water.
Brito carried the man out of the water and managed to resuscitate him before medical help arrived. He was taken to Sao Jose Hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.
The president of Portugal, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, called Brito to commend him on his heroic efforts and plans to award him with a medal for his "compassion and courage".
It's unknown how the 68-year-old man ended up in the river.
