This Carpenter Is Building Free Virtual Learning Desks For Students In Need
October 3, 2020
A carpenter in Lemoore, California, has built dozens of free desks for children in the community.

Mitch Couch
Mitchell Couch has been a carpenter for over 20 years and recently launched a Do-It-Yourself YouTube channel. In one of his videos, he built a student desk for distance learning.
"I made this desk out of wood for $20," he wrote. "It might just be the easiest desk you can make for your student. Distant learning can be stressful so let's make this custom desk that you and your child can build together."
A local supermarket caught wind of the tutorial and offered to supply materials if Couch was willing to build more.
"I have to tell you about some amazing people in our community," Couch wrote in an Instagram post. "The owners of the local Grocery Outlet saw my diy desk video and asked me if i could make some desks for them. They wanted to donate them to the local schools for the kids who are in need because of distant learning. I didn't hesitate to help them out."
Couch accepted the challenge and has since built 37 wooden desks, while the requests keep coming in.
The student desks have been distributed free of charge to local students through nearby school districts, making their way to families in Lemoore and the surrounding rural areas.
