Woman Dumped For Being 'Too Fat' Wins Miss Great Britain
February 27, 2020
A 26-year-old woman has been crowned Miss Great Britain after once being dumped by her fiancé for being "too fat".
Jen Atkin lost a whopping 112 pounds - going from 247 pounds to 131 pounds - in just two years. She decided enough was enough when she couldn’t fit into her favorite dress and got dumped by her ex-fiance.
"Well, after years of being obese, unhealthy and uncomfortable I found motivation and managed to lose 8 stone," Atkin said. "It transformed me into an ambitious and hard working person in all areas of my life; achieving something so incredible changed my mindset and made me realise if I worked hard enough for something, I could achieve it."
When Atkin met her ex in 2011 she weighed around 200 pounds as she had become "a weekend recluse" dining on takeout.
The couple planned to wed in the years that followed, but as she continued to gain more weight, her ex-fiancé decided to end their relationship in 2015.
"When we broke up, I was devastated but it ended up being the best thing that's happened to me," she said.
In 2017 she took part in her first pageant and was one of 10 finalists.
Three years later, Jen won the ultimate prize after being named the 75th Miss Great Britain during a national final.
"Although my body has changed so much I think don't think my personality has, and I think that's really helped me," she said. "The judges were able to see what kind of person I really am."
