Pink Pledges $500,000 To Australian Fire Services

January 4, 2020

Pink has announced she is donating $500,000 to Australian fire services currently on the front lines of the bushfire crisis.

"I am totally devastated watching what is happening in Australia right now with the horrific bushfires," the singer wrote in a Tweet. "I am pledging a donation of $500,000 directly to the local fire services that are battling so hard on the frontlines. My heart goes out to our friends and family in Oz."

Australia's two most populous states, New South Wales and Victoria, have had their east coasts devastated by massive out-of-control fires that have destroyed more than 1,500 homes, The Guardian reported.

The NSW Rural Fire Service commissioner, Shane Fitzsimmons, said on Saturday that 148 fires were burning across the state, 12 of which were at emergency warning alert level.

Australian comedian Celeste Barber has also raised over $10 million to date for firefighters battling to save properties and people across New South Wales.

She called for donations to the NSW Rural Fire Service and in less than 24 hours, a staggering $8 million was raised from people all over the world.
