Construction Changed A Blind's Man's Route, So His Bus Driver Parked And Helped Him Cross The Road
July 26, 2018
Gene Hubbard is blind but he has been going to work unassisted for the past two decades.
The 69-year-old takes the county bus, alone, to and from his office every workday. Gene knew every step of the way -- until recent road construction threw him off course.

"If I don't have a regular locating point to start from, I may as well be in the middle of the ocean," Hubbard told Fox 6 News.
Thankfully, MCTS bus driver Thaddaus Turner sensed his distress. Turner parked the bus in the middle of the road and let Gene take his arm.
Little did he know, a bystander snapped a photo of his act of kindness and posted it on social media.
When the Milwaukee County Transit System got word of Turner's good deed, they located the security footage from inside the bus and posted it to their Facebook page.
"Thad Turner didn't think twice before helping a rider who is blind across the street, but for those that saw it, it was an amazing act of kindness," they wrote.
Turner says the attention he's received has really caught him off guard.
"I was surprised when I saw it in the news," he said. "I didn't think I would be here right now over something that is second nature to me, and my colleagues."
