This Railway Station In Japan Caters To Only ONE Passenger So That She Can Go To School

January 9, 2016

The story of Kami-Shirataki Station in northern Japan is a moving one. Deemed as remote and defunct due to very low number of passengers boarding and alighting, it has been on Japan Railways list of stations that need to go.

However, the station is still open for now because of one person - a school girl.

good news 2016

Only two trains make a stop at this lonely station. One at 7 AM to pick her up, and another at 5 PM to drop her back.

The area surrounding Kami Shirataki station lost 20 rail lines in the past few years and it won't be long until this route shuts down.

The girl will complete her education in March and the station that made sure she got to school every day will shut down for good.
