Earlier this week, police arrested the pup's alleged abuser on animal cruelty charges, and Caitlyn is now expected to make a full recovery, The Associated Press reports.

The 15-month-old Chocolate Staffordshire's operation to reconstruct her badly damaged lips, cheeks and tongue was an overall success, her surgeons say.

Thanks to the skilled hands of veterinarians DrKlein and Dr Bianucci, of Veterinary Specialty Care - SC Caitlyn has a reconstructed muzzle! #IamCaitlan #adoptatcas

After getting Caitlyn through surgery, doctors are optimistic that the dog will recover from the tragic incident with only a minimal loss of tongue function.

Caitlyn is now recovering in her ICU suite. Watch the live feed below to check in on her progress.
