I'm a school bus driver. I had a rough day yesterday with a parent, and a different parent gave me some arroz con leche and her phone number this morning.

Bus drivers get so much grief over little things, even when it's simply because they are following district policy. The mom who went off on me did so because I wouldn't let her 1st and 3rd grade sons off the bus. In our district, there needs to be a 4th grader or older, OR she needs to be present at the stop. She was sitting in her car somewhere, and at that stop I have 29 children getting off between two driveways of the same development on an extremely busy road. I'm not able to peer into cars to try and find people, and she laid on her horn and started screaming at me while walking up to the bus when she saw I had her kids sit back down. Anyway, she scared me and the kids on the bus, and this mom wanted to let me know she appreciated me.

The really sweet part is that there is a big language barrier. Her first grader speaks English well, I speak maybe 5% of the language, and yet she is still willing to get together and chat if I need it.

My soul really needed it this morning.
