Accidentally Became A Therapist For My Neighbor's Tomato Plant

By a friend • December 15, 2025

I unintentionally became my neighbor’s emotional support human this afternoon.

I was grabbing a courier when my older neighbor waved me over and asked if I had “a minute for something important.” That minute turned into me sitting on her front steps while she showed me her phone gallery.

Every single photo was of the same tomato plant.

She scrolled proudly and said things like, “This was before he really found himself,” and “Oh, this was a hard week, too much sun.” The plant’s name is Golu. Apparently Golu is dramatic.

She asked me if I thought Golu looked “tired” lately. I said maybe a little. She nodded very seriously and said, “I knew it.”

After about ten minutes, she thanked me for “listening” and sent me home with three tomatoes “from Golu himself.”

I have never been more emotionally invested in a plant I met five minutes ago.

Anyway, shoutout to neighbors who just need someone to validate their gardening concerns. 10/10, would check on Golu agaun.
