My dad was never really great to my mom. He wasn’t very present and I don’t think he valued her like he should’ve.

Well mom got remarried a few years ago to a man that she actually knew back in elementary school. They reconnected and he’s been so good to her. He really takes care of her.

Well I was sitting with them one day and I was telling them how I told my boyfriend that our dog’s stretches must be acknowledged with “big stretch”. This is common courtesy. It’s just the only appropriate thing to say. Right?

Mom’s husband kind of nodded and said “alright. ‘Big stretch,’ huh? Fair enough.”

My mom texted me the next day. “I was in the kitchen and heard John in the living room telling the dog ‘big stretch’”

It makes me happy that he makes her happy.
