On Friday night, my 4-year-old face-planted in the food court of a shopping centre and banged her forehead quite badly.

She was screaming the place down, and as we tried to comfort her and figure out what two do, two lovely people offered help.

The first insisted we take her bottle of cold water to pop on our little one's bump, then the second went to the nearby juice shop and got us some ice. The juice shop staff took the time to wrap the ice up in cling wrap and paper towel to make an ice pack too, a kindness I hadn't even registered until now.

We were so overwhelmed in the moment, and the people helped when we couldn't even think what to do.
