Meet Muffin, a five-year-old neighborhood cat who has become such a beloved regular at a local library that staff decided to make his visits official with a lifetime membership card — good for all nine lives.

Muffin isn’t your typical library guest. Nearly every day, he makes his way over to the Dorval Library in Quebec from his nearby home and heads straight for the front doors like he’s reporting for duty.

And in a way, he is.

“About ten people have come in, so they just go by and say, ‘Hi, Muffin,’” said his owner, Peter Bjorn. “And I ask if they knew him, and they said Muffin is always here.”

Over time, Muffin has taken on an unofficial role as the library’s greeter, welcoming visitors with his calm, friendly presence. Staff say he even seems to run on a schedule.

“He knows when to show up. He knows when we close. He knows which doors to go to as well,” said staff member Dorothy Black. “He’ll try the front door, the sliding doors.”

His daily routine is so reliable that his family sometimes gives the library a heads-up before letting him out, and sure enough, he arrives within minutes.

“One day they called and said, ‘We’re letting him out now,’” recalled librarian Gail Warren. “Five minutes later, he was at the front door!”

While books may be the main attraction for most visitors, Muffin is all about the people. He prefers greeting guests and soaking up attention rather than wandering through the stacks.

“We love him. The clients love him,” said librarian Kyra Paquet. “He’s so wonderful to have at the door… you just see people’s faces light up.”

Muffin’s curiosity doesn’t stop at the library doors. His adventures have taken him to nearby spots like a community center and even a local yacht club, though one unexpected visit to the dining room didn’t go over so well, earning him a permanent ban.

But no matter where else he wanders, the library remains his favorite place.

And now, with his very own library card, Muffin isn’t just a visitor — he’s part of the story.
