Rebel Cat Crosses US–Canada Border Daily And 'Smuggles' Goods
March 18, 2026
Meet Louis - officially Louis Vuitton - a fearless feline from Surrey, British Columbia, who has become a local legend for doing something most humans wouldn’t dare: ignoring international law and casually crossing the U.S.–Canada border almost daily.
While the border in his area is closely monitored with guards, cameras, and even helicopters, none of it seems to bother this four-legged rule-breaker. Louis simply hops over a small ditch that separates the two countries—no hesitation, no paperwork, no problem.
Residents have grown fond of the confident kitty, who seems to treat the international boundary as his personal walkway.
“He’s a cool little cat, keeps coming back and forth and says hello to everybody,” said Surrey resident Bob Christy.
But Louis isn’t just crossing borders for fun—he’s apparently bringing “gifts” along the way.

According to his owner, Deb Tate, Louis is an expert hunter who frequently catches snakes and mice… and then “smuggles” them across the border, leaving them on doorsteps like surprise deliveries.
“I bet he did not declare them,” Tate laughed, adding, “He kind of flaunts his recklessness.”
Despite his daring adventures, Louis always makes his way back home—usually on his own schedule, or when the unmistakable sound of cat treats calls him back.
The border-hopping bandit will turn six on July 1—Canada Day, fittingly—and continues to charm everyone who hears about his carefree crossings.
"He's looking out for M-ICE," one commenter joked.
"Cat: 'AND I'LL DO IT AGAIN'," another wrote.
In a world full of rules and red tape, Louis is a fluffy reminder that sometimes a little mischief—and a lot of personality—can bring smiles to both sides of the border.
