Delivery Driver Returns To Refund $130 'Overcharge' And Finds Out It Was Actually Her Tip

What started as a simple grocery delivery just days before Christmas has turned into a heartwarming story of honesty, generosity, and an unexpected friendship.

Kelly Schilling needed a few last-minute groceries and placed an order through Uber Eats. Like any routine order, delivery driver Lisa Burnett accepted the request, picked up the items, and dropped them off at Schilling’s home.

But the next day, Burnett noticed something surprising.

“I looked and there was $130 there, I said ‘OK, something’s wrong,’” Burnett said.

Concerned the charge might be a mistake, she contacted the company and was told the payment was listed as “miscellaneous.” Still worried that someone might have accidentally been overcharged, Burnett decided to do something many people might not have done—she went back to return the money.

“I was scared someone was going to be without a Christmas if they couldn’t account for that money,” Burnett explained.

When she arrived at Schilling’s home to let her know about the possible error, she discovered the truth: the tip was intentional.

“She could’ve very easily taken the tip, and I never would’ve heard from her. And that would’ve been fine! It was for her,” Schilling said.

“Did they give you the money?” Schilling asked.

“Yes,” Burnett replied.

“It was for you!” Schilling said.

Touched by Burnett’s honesty and concern, Schilling decided to share the video online. She posted it to TikTok, where it quickly took off.

“A couple of hours later, I had 5,000 people saying ‘Where is she?’” Schilling said.

Wanting to properly thank the kind delivery driver, Schilling began searching for Burnett online until she found her contact information and invited her back to her home.

Burnett admitted she was nervous when she returned, worried she might have somehow done something wrong. Instead, Schilling welcomed her warmly and surprised her with additional gifts, including a new jacket and $250 in gift cards.

But the kindness didn’t stop there.

Schilling also shared that tens of thousands of people had watched the video and many wanted to help Burnett after hearing part of her story.

“I’m grieving really, really bad. I lost my daughter five years ago. And I’m raising her beautiful daughter,” Burnett shared in the now-viral video.

Burnett had also recently applied for public housing assistance. Hoping to give her and her granddaughter a brighter future, the two women started a GoFundMe campaign.

Within days, the generosity of strangers poured in. More than $45,000 was donated to help Burnett and her granddaughter find a home.

When asked if the unexpected moment changed her life, Burnett didn’t hesitate.

“Ten-fold,” she said.

Schilling believes the powerful response says a lot about what people are craving right now.

“Lisa represents exactly why this story is viral and what people want more of in the world,” she said.

What began as a simple grocery delivery ended with two strangers forming a lasting bond—and a reminder that honesty and kindness can spark incredible ripple effects.
