Family On Walk Finds Kitten Covered In Ice, Stuck To Plastic She Was Hiding Under

A simple winter adventure turned into a life-saving moment for one family and a tiny kitten who desperately needed help.

While exploring the snow-covered woods with his kids, a dad suddenly heard the sound of a cat crying. The meows were constant and urgent, and it quickly became clear something was wrong.

Following the sound, the family discovered a heartbreaking scene.

A very young kitten was trapped beneath a random piece of plastic lying in the woods. The plastic had likely been her only attempt at shelter from the freezing cold — but it had become a deadly trap. The kitten was completely covered in ice, and her fur had frozen to the plastic, leaving her unable to move.

“We found this poor little kitten in the woods, covered in ice, with her fur stuck to the hunk of plastic she was hiding under for shelter,” the dad wrote in a Reddit post. “We saved her.”

The kitten, estimated to be just 3 to 4 weeks old, was tiny and helpless. The family carefully freed her and rushed her home, where they immediately began warming her up and feeding her. Before long, the terrified little kitten started to relax — and even seemed happy.

The dad couldn’t stop thinking about how close the rescue came to never happening.

“If we hadn’t just happened to go in that direction, we never would have found her,” he wrote. “She would have suffered and died there.”

Despite previously insisting that their household wouldn’t grow beyond three cats, this rescue felt different.

“I was adamant we wouldn't go above 3 cats in the house again, but this one just feels like it was meant to be ours,” he said.

Given the icy conditions she survived, the family chose a perfectly fitting name for their new kitten: Elsa.
