A Koala Hitched A Ride On A Bus In Brisbane
December 23, 2025
When most of us think of public transport, koalas don’t usually come to mind — but that’s exactly what happened in Brisbane last weekend.

Koala Rescue Brisbane South
On Saturday night, a call came in to Koala Rescue Brisbane South: a koala had been spotted on a CityGlider bus! The adventurous marsupial, later named Peri, had been seen dodging traffic on Wiles Street at Camp Hill before scrambling up a light post on a traffic island.
The quick-thinking bus driver didn’t hesitate. Worried that Peri might climb down and get hit by a car, the driver carefully used a light jacket to cover his head and moved him onto the bus to keep him safe.
Koala Rescue Brisbane South reminds everyone: koalas are wild animals. They have sharp claws, can bite, and being handled incorrectly can seriously injure them. But in this case, the driver’s fast thinking likely saved Peri’s life.
Peri was taken to the RSPCA wildlife hospital for a check-up — and less than 24 hours later, he was cleared as healthy and released back into the wild at Seven Hills Bushland Reserve, munching happily on eucalyptus leaves.
