On August 11, Alyce and Kevin Rotunda were racing to the hospital for the birth of their fourth child, but their daughter had other plans. With contractions coming fast and the hospital still 45 minutes away, the couple pulled into a closed McDonald’s in Schoolcraft just after 3 a.m.
Moments later, baby Matilda made her debut under the Golden Arches.
The nickname they had always planned for her was “Tilly,” but after her unique birthplace was officially recorded on her birth certificate, her brother-in-law gave her a new moniker that stuck: “McTilly.”
"He was talking to my husband, and they were talking about nicknames, and he came up with McTilly, and he just thought it was the best thing ever," Alyce shared. "Everyone gets a kick out of it."

The family’s story quickly spread, with even the local McDonald’s joining in on the fun.
In a Facebook post, they wrote: “Alyce and Kevin Rotunda got more than they ordered in the parking lot at the Schoolcraft McDonald's. During the early morning hours of Aug. 11, they welcomed their beautiful baby girl, Matilda, under the Golden Arches!”
For Alyce, who had a high-risk pregnancy and a history of complications, the safe arrival of Matilda was the greatest blessing.
“I am just so incredibly thankful and blessed that there were no complications for the baby or for me… the whole experience is wild, but I’m just very thankful,” she said.
Now, the Rotundas are adjusting to life with their newest little one — who already has a nickname that’s making people everywhere smile.
