This Adorable Creature Has Everyone Doing A Double Take

July 22, 2025

When one pet owner shared photos of their adorable new family member, Floki, the internet wasn’t quite sure what to make of him.

Was it a dog? A cat? Something in between?

As it turns out, Floki is a Xoloitzcuintle—more commonly known as a Xolo (pronounced show-low).

The Xoloitzcuintle, also called the Mexican Hairless Dog, is one of the oldest dog breeds in the world. Ceramic sculptures of Xolos have been found in burial sites in ancient West Mexico.

They come in three sizes—standard, intermediate, and miniature—and they can be either hairless or fully coated with fur.

Surprisingly, both coated and hairless pups can appear in the same litter due to the unique mix of genes.

The hairless variety, known in Spanish as Perro pelón mexicano, ranges in size from about 10 to 55 pounds and has a smooth, bare skin that gives them their distinctive look.

While their appearance might be unusual, their sweet and loyal personalities make them unforgettable companions.
