Helicopter Footage Captures Home Miraculously Saved From Tennessee Flood

April 14, 2025

When catastrophic floods swept through Bogota, Tennessee, in early April, one home remained dry.

An aerial view that’s now gone viral shows the Humphrey family’s farmhouse standing strong, encircled by a handmade levee, like a tiny island in the middle of a lake.

That remarkable sight was no accident. It was the result of pure determination and love, as brothers Justin and Tucker Humphrey raced to protect their family home using nothing but dirt, sandbags, and the knowledge passed down by their late father, Mike Humphrey.

When flood warnings were issued, the brothers sprang into action. From Sunday through the peak of the flooding, they worked nonstop, building a wall of earth around their home with an old tractor and a whole lot of grit. Day and night, alongside their mother Amy, they patrolled the levee, reinforcing weak spots and holding the line.

A local resident captured this video from a helicopter, showing the Humphrey home completely surrounded by floodwaters:

And in the end, their hard work paid off. The floodwater never breached the Humphreys’ last line of defense. Their house remained dry inside, a lone beacon of hope surrounded by a muddy lake.

Looks like Hank was right when he said, “A country boy can survive.”

While the Humphreys are grateful their home was spared, the flood took a heavy toll on their farm. A close friend has launched an online fundraiser to help them recover and rebuild, as the farm is their primary source of income.
