Why John Cena Always Carries A Broken Pocket Watch

August 23, 2024

There are many reasons to love John Cena, from his wrestling career to his record-breaking work with the Make-A-Wish Foundation, where he’s granted more than 650 wishes.

But one of his lesser-known habits is both intriguing and inspiring.

In a recent interview with Jeff Goldblum, Cena revealed that he carries a broken pocket watch with him at all times. Though it doesn’t tell time, this watch serves a deeper purpose.

The watch reminds him that he is enough and loved. It also keeps his ego in check, reminding him to stay humble, no matter how much success he achieves.

Check out the explanation in the interview below!

On one side of the watch, it reads, "Comparison is the thief of joy." Cena glances at this whenever he feels uncomfortable, inadequate, or undeserving of love.

The other side bears the inscription "Memento Mori," a reminder of his humanity and to always stay grounded in his roots.

This simple, broken watch is a powerful tool for self-reflection, a way for Cena to maintain balance in his life and stay true to himself amid the chaos of fame.
