Metal Worker Creates Beautiful Mother's Day Ring For His Wife
May 10, 2020
Jordan, the goldsmith and founder of Modern Goldsmith, made a beautiful custom Mother's Day ring for his wife.
It started with 14K yellow gold grain poured into a crucible.

First he had to melt down the gold.

Once the gold liquified he poured it into an ingot mold.

Once the gold cooled he had a nice little chunk of metal to shape and customize.

In order to shape this gold, it is first rolled out in a rolling mill. This shapes and elongates the metal.

He drilled a center hole to place a birthstone.

Using metal bending pliers he shaped the metal into a ring shape.

Two more holes for the other birthstones.

The three birthstones (citrine for November, peridot for August, and diamond for April).

Using a milgraine tool, he created a nice "bumpy" edge.

Milgrain provides a nice little accent on the edges and also makes the ring a bit more vintage-inspired.

Then the ring was buffed, dropped in an ultrasonic bath, and steam cleaned.

Using an engraving machine, he engraved the names of their children on the inside of the ring.
