11 year-old Jean Fernandes is being hailed a hero after risking his own life to save a dog that had been hit by a car in Itajaí, Brazil.

The injured dog was lying in the middle of the road after the motorist who hit him drove off. Jean ran between oncoming vehicles to protect the innocent animal and eventually brought him to safety.

According to his mother, Jean often rescues animals he finds abandoned or abused. Although it's likely she would have had a near heart attack watching her son run into traffic.
The dog is still in the care of vets but is doing fine according to BioBioChile.
