This Grandmother Drives Across Her County Every Day To Help Feed 200 Children
September 14, 2015
During the summer, when there aren't any free or reduced priced lunches from school, this grandmother and her team of volunteers found a way to make sure kids in their community don't go hungry.
Phyllis Shaughnessy lives in Gray's Harbor, Washington, which is a run-down town with low income families. And the children are the ones who end up suffering the most.
During the school year, the children are fed through the school's lunch program. But when summer arrives, the free lunches comes to a grinding halt.
When Shaughnessy learned about all the kids in her county that could go hungry over the summer, she decided to help feed all 200 of them, every single day.
"You're offering the children hope and love and a lunch," Shaughnessy said. "They need to know someone cares. We're all put on this earth to do something. Better to give than to take."
