Those People Who Walked Out Are A-holes. I Hope This Helps
By chris • September 9, 2013
The bartender looked very stressed and I overheard her talking to her manager about a table that had apparently walked out without paying her. I could tell it was bothering her so I asked her what happened. Apparently the table of four had racked up a $150 check. One couple left early, while the other stayed. Then the woman left leaving only one person at the table. The bartender assumed the woman went to the restroom and would be back. As soon as the bartender left behind the bar to grab food from the kitchen, the last man at the table left. Judging by the story, the whole incident was no accident, yet carefully planned.
As a former bartender back in college, I know that depending on the establishment, the bartender is responsible to pay for the checks of people who walk out. I wasn't sure on her situation, but either way it wasn't good for her.
My check was $20 for two drinks and I left her a $30 tip on top of the $20. I am in no way even close to wealthy enough to afford to doing that but it felt right. I I left a little note on the tab saying "Those people who walked out are A-holes. I hope this helps :) " We left before we could see her reaction.
Always be kind to one another. Random acts of kindness go a long way.
