A Reputation To Call Mine
By Nana Yaw Otwey • August 6, 2015
I was present at a friend’s birthday party last weekend and in the course of the party friends and family were asked to say anything about the friend ever since she came into our lives. It could be good or bad. Everyone spoke giving individual accounts of how we knew her. In as much as we all tried not repeat what someone had already said, two words were inexorable; discipline and hardworking. She earned it. She built a reputation for herself that even in her absence, she was remembered as such. What would you be remembered as? What reputation are you building for you? Is it a virtuous or an immoral one, admirable or reprehensive?
moral......
“Regard your good name as the richest jewel you can possibly possess.”-Socrates. Liken reputation to fire and for the fire to continue burning its fuel must not run out. Reputation is fueled by character”. “Reputation is what others think us; character is what ourselves knows of us.” - Yaw Otwey. D.L. Moody also said that “If I take care of character, my reputation will take care of itself.” Don’t worry about what others think of you although it is important. You primary goal is to work on what makes you the person people perceive. Every moment counts in reputation build up.
